Tech Budget 2024: FM Nirmala Sitharaman announces 300 units of free electricity with rooftop solarisation

Tech Budget 2024: Today, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the Interim Budget 2024-25 aimed at promoting and accelerating India's great growth. As part of the announcement, Sitharaman highlighted the installation of rooftop solarization in 1 crore households which will help in getting up to 300 units of free electricity every month. The FM further said, “This scheme follows the Prime Minister's resolve on the historic day of inauguration of Sri Rama Mandir in Ayodhya.” This move will enhance India's sustainability goals.

The finance minister spoke about the ceiling scheme after the Prime Minister's resolution while presenting the Interim Budget 2024 announcement. The new scheme will empower 1 crore households with a rooftop solar energy system that will enable them to generate up to 300 units of free electricity every month. Sitharaman added, “Rs. Savings up to 15,000 – Rs.18,000 to sell surplus from free solar power to households and discoms,” said LiveMint.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also made a similar announcement under the Pradhan Mantri Surodaya Yojana. This move will help low and middle-income families to save huge amount on electricity bills. This may lead to better investment for the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy.

The interim budget for 2024 will first be passed by Parliament and the final budget for 2024-25 will be announced after the new administration takes over, which is after the final result of the upcoming elections. It is expected to happen in June, 2024. While presenting the Interim Budget 2024, the FM also announced increased investments in electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, new schemes for deep tech for defense purposes under Atmanirbhar Bharat Infrastructure. Now, the final budget will reveal more about tech investments and measures to boost Indian startups and artificial intelligence technology.
