We are now just 8 months away from seeing Apple's unveiling with the iPhone 16 series and the iOS 18 update. As the leaks continue to emerge, we have an idea of what features the new generation of iPhones might include, however, we can't say for sure what Apple is planning. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the iPhone 16 may not receive major design changes, despite rumors abounding about the new capture button's generative AI features. Check out what current reports have to say about the upcoming iPhone 16 series.
iPhone 16 design changes
According to Kuo's report, the iPhone 16 may not receive “significant design changes” and may lack productive AI features compared to other competitors in the Apple smartphone industry this year. There has been speculation that Apple is developing generative AI features for the iOS 18 update, but Kuo said we won't see much development until the launch of the iPhone 17 series in 2025. “Apple is expected to release no new iPhone models with significant design changes and a more integrated/differentiated GenAI ecosystem/applications until 2025 at the earliest,” Kuo said.

The iPhone 16 may also get the same camera design as the iPhone 12, which again is not a significant change in design and Apple seems to be following the same design trends for years now.
According to current smartphone buyer trends, they are leaning towards foldable and AI smartphones. Samsung and Google have recently ramped up their AI initiatives for their smartphone devices, but Apple is lagging far behind in the race. Kuo predicts that Apple will experience a decline in shipments of iPhones in 2024 due to current AI demand.
Apart from that, this year's iPhone 16 series is expected to get larger display sizes. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will come in 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch display sizes. Additionally, a new capture button is rumored to make the process of capturing videos easier. However, we can only be sure about these upgrades until Apple announces the iPhone 16 series.
